HIV Vaccine Awareness Day
MAY 18

May 18 is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is the lead for this day.
The Facts
Despite much research, there still is not a vaccine for HIV/AIDS. All Americans, especially communities of color and men who have sex with men, need to learn more about HIV vaccine research in order to make an HIV vaccine a reality.
This awareness day provides a great opportunity to thank the thousands of people who are working to help find an HIV preventive vaccine—the clinical trial volunteers, health professionals, community members, and the researchers.
- Websites
- www.AIDS.gov is the gateway to all Federal domestic information on HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment, research, policies and resources.
- NIAID’s HIV Vaccine Awareness Day web site-- contains fact sheets, statistics, press releases, talking points, and media tools and allows you to view HVAD bilingual print ads and listen to bilingual radio spots.
- an educational initiative supported by the Division of AIDS at NIAID, to help HIV affected communities and individuals become more aware, educated, and supportive of HIV vaccine research and have positive attitudes towards clinical trial volunteerism. - www.hivtest.org -To find an HIV testing location near you.
- Mobile Resources
Send a text message with your zip code to KNOWIT (566948) to find an HIV testing center near you.

San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR) invites you to dine at one of the many and diverse restaurants participating in Dine for a Change on April 3rd, 2008! SFWAR is asking our donors as well as the public-at-large to patronize participating restaurants on April 3rd, 2008. In turn, we ask participating restaurants to donate 15%-40% of total food and beverage sales to SFWAR on that day. Dine for a Change is a great way for restaurants to gain new patrons and customers, raise visibility for their business and contribute to the well-being of the community by taking a stand against sexual violence. Participating in Dine for a Change is a good way for individuals to support our local businesses and help bring awareness to the problem of rape and sexual assault.
